Tesla has officially entered the Indian automotive market with the launch of its highly anticipated Model Y, marking a significant milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) landscape in the country. The American EV giant unveiled its first Indian experience center in Mumbai alongside the Model Y, signaling its commitment to the burgeoning Indian EV market.

Model Y: Price and Availability in India
The Model Y is available in two rear-wheel-drive variants, with base RWD version priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and the long-range RWD version at ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).Deliveries are slated to begin in Q3 2025 for the base variant and Q4 2025 for the long-range version. As a launch incentive, Tesla is offering a complimentary wall connector for home charging.
Performance and Range: Electrifying the Indian Roads
Both Model Y variants boast impressive performance figures. The base model achieves a WLTP-certified range of 500 kilometers, while the long-range version extends this to an impressive 622 kilometers. Both can reach a top speed of 201 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 5.9 seconds for the base model and 5.6 seconds for the long-range variant.
Design and Interior: A Blend of Style and Functionality
The Model Y showcases Tesla’s signature sleek design, featuring a refreshed front fascia and a distinctive LED light bar. The Indian-spec Model Y comes equipped with 19-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels. Six exterior colors are available, with Stealth Grey offered as standard.

The interior offers two color schemes: all-black and a dual-tone black and white option. Inside, the Model Y prioritizes comfort and technology with features like dual-layer acoustic glass, ambient lighting, ventilated and powered reclining seats, and a hands-free trunk. A remarkable 2130 liters of cargo space is available, utilizing both the rear trunk and front trunk (“frunk”).
Two touchscreen displays dominate the dashboard: a 15.4-inch infotainment screen and an 8-inch rear-seat entertainment screen. While the hardware for Tesla’s full self-driving capabilities is present, activation is pending regulatory approval in India.
Charging Infrastructure: Powering the Future
Tesla is committed to building a robust charging network in India. Owners will have access to wall connectors (11 kW, ~70 km range per hour), Tesla Superchargers (250 kW, ~275 km range in 15 minutes), and Destination chargers at various locations (11 kW, ~70 km range per hour). Initial plans include four charging stations each in Mumbai and Delhi, with a mix of Superchargers and Destination chargers.
